Uckfield Concert Brass entertain in style at the Scaba Entertainment Contest!

With a spectacular entrance that featured a New Orleans style funeral band, complete with Coffin, Uckfield Concert Brass took the stage by storm at the Crawley Entertainment Contest held at the Hawth Theatre. the audience were even more surprised when MD, Steve McIntyre, arose like Lazarus and took the band into the uptempo section of "Just a closer walk with thee"!

The programme continued with "Amazing Grace" and a fabulous cornet solo "Satchmo" which was expertly performed by the band's Principal Cornet, Marcus Plant. He also clearly impressed the adjudicator, David Read, who awarded him the best soloist award - well done Marcus!

The band then went on to show their singing ability in a rousing performance of Wham's "Wake me up before you go go!"

Uckfield Concert Brass are well and truly back!

Yet more contest success for Uckfield Concert Brass!

Uckfield Concert Brass achieved success at the Southern Counties area brass band contest at Hove Town Hall on Sunday 5th April when they beat five other brass bands to win the second section trophy with a performance of ‘Dimensions’ by Peter Graham. They beat brass bands from around the region – only 18 months after they almost went out of existence due to dwindling numbers at rehearsals. However, since the autumn of 2007 – and following the appointment of Steve McIntyre as musical director – the band has gone from strength to strength resulting in this fine result this week. The band was also placed second in the first section in the March class, only being beaten by the Tilbury band, but beating 6 other higher placed bands, including one from Belgium.

Steve McIntyre said: ‘I am delighted with the progress and success of the band, and it is testimony to their dedication and hard work that we have got this far in so short a time.  To win the second section and be placed second in the March class of the first section is a fine achievement and I believe we can build on this success in the future.’ Peter Cowlett is the chairman of UCB and he stated: ‘Since Steve McIntyre has been the musical director of the band, the standard and support for the band has been first class and we hope to carry this success on in the future’.
